Bert Smith Patriotic Poetry Contest

March 12, 2022   8:00 a.m. SHARP!

Cache County Event Center  490 S 500 W Logan, Utah

In a time when it might be easy to look negatively at our country, Bert Smith (CEO Smith & Edwards) would like us to take an opportunity to look for  the “good in our country and put those virtues in prose”. This is a time to remember that this nation was founded on ‘E Pluribus Unum’ – in the many - emerge one.

Let’s focus on the unity in diversity and celebrate this great nation through true patriotism and poetry!

  • Open to ANY ADULT OR YOUTH .

  • There will be 4 divisions:

    • Kids Pre -6th  and 7th – 12th

    • Adult Amateur and Pro (If you’ve ever been  paid or published.

      • Poetry can be:

  • Original Poetry" - poetry composed and recited by the poet.  (Extra points given for original poetry).

  • "Recited Poetry" - poetry composed by another author but recited by poet.

  • Poetry must be PATRIOTIC in Nature – NOT POLITICAL – No bashing !!

  • Poetry must include rhyming themes.

  • Poem / person – Kids can participate in BOTH Kids Poetry Contest AND Patriotic Contest!

  • Poetry recitation time:  2 - 4 minutes

  • In the event of a tie all efforts will be made to split awards fairly.

  • Practice Session:  Tuesday- March 8th at 5:30 pm at the Cache County Event Center

  • 1st place in each division will win a custom belt buckle!

  • Remaining placings will receive a gift card to Smith & Edwards from contest sponsor Kathy Smith

  • Winners of both contests will be given a spot on Saturday afternoon on the ‘open mic’ stage to recite their poetry again.

Kids Poetry Contest

March 12, 2022  Right after the Patriotic Contest

Please be there by 8:30 am!

Cache County Event Center  490 S 500 W  Logan, Utah

  • Open to all youth up to and including High School Seniors.

  • There will be 4 age divisions:  Preschool - 2nd grade; 3 - 5th grade; 6 - 8th grade; 9 - 12th grade.

  • Poetry can be:

    • "Original Poetry" - poetry composed and recited by the student. (extra points given for original poetry).

    • "Recited Poetry" - poetry composed by another author but recited by student.

  • Poetry must include rhyming themes.

  • Poetry must be based on western life and culture – Help us keep this culture alive.

  • Each youth must memorize his/her presentation. Start learnin’ yur  rimes' kids!

  • 1 Poem / person.

  • Poetry recitation time:  2 - 4 minutes.

  • Poet must be dressed in jeans and long sleeve shirt or in tasteful, western attire. Please arrive by 8:30 am ● Prizes:  All participants will receive a prize.

  • 1st place in each division will receive a custom belt buckle.  Remaining placings will be a S&E Gift Card.

  • Youth can participate in both the Kids Poetry & Patriotic Poetry Contest!
